Since its establishment in 2012, Singapore brand AFTERSHOCK PC has made a name for itself as a high-grade and high-customisability professional gaming PC and laptop manufacturer.

Looking to expand into the monitor market, the AfterShock team founded company PRISM+. Their goal: to deliver a full-package immersive experience with ultra-fast refresh rates and high resolution gaming displays for the masses.

Today, we’ll be looking into the PRISM+ W270 in detail, a value-for-money monitor which is adept for graphic designers, video editors and gamers alike.

Specifications

Like the name suggests, the W270 is a flat 27” monitor made for professional-use; meaning if you’re an animator, graphic designer, photographer, videographer and the like, this monitor is made for you.

It boasts a resolution of 2560 x 1440 QHD with 100% SRGB Colour Gamut. This means that the colours displayed are extremely accurate and close to true to life for optimal professional editing.

The monitor is capped at a 60Hz refresh rate with a 5ms response time. This essentially means that your monitor can only display up to 60 frames per second. Faster refresh rates equal to smoother content viewed on your screen. It’s perfectly adequate for work and casual gaming.

However, hardcore gamers steering towards fast-paced shooters and MOBAs such as Overwatch, DOTA 2, Fortnite and CS:GO might be better opting for a 144Hz monitor like the PRISM+ X340.

W270 features low blue light and flicker free technologies that not only reduce eye-strain, but also minimises fatigue from long hours of usage. This is perfect for people who spend long hours at the desk, for work and games alike.

Physical Build

Setting up of the monitor itself comprised of attaching the platform onto the stand, and then screwing it under the monitor – pretty straight forward. We would, however, recommend using a smaller screwdriver when fixing the stand as the angle that it attaches to the monitor is a bit tough to reach.

Instead of the silver bezels that can be found on the PRISM+ X315 and X340, the W270 comes with black bezels. Personally we found that the black bezels were aesthetically more appealing and immersive than the silver alternative.

However, the bezels on the W270 are slightly thicker so if you’re considering this monitor for a multi-display setup take note that the experience won’t be as seamless from screen to screen.

Similar to the rest of PRSIM+’s monitors, the W270 offers a HDMI, DVI and DP port.

Functionality

The monitor has limited adaptive range of motion as it can only be tilted upwards and downwards. Hence, if you’re in need of that additional adaptiveness then we would recommend attaching the monitor to a vesa mount for maximum adjustability.

In fact, PRISM+ offers their own renditions of mounts as well named the ARC 01 and ARC 02 respectively.

Price

The W270 is currently going at $340, an extremely competitive price and a definite bang for buck quality monitor compared to its competitor’s equals BenQ GW2765HT ($590) and ASUS PB278QR ($789).

Overall Thoughts

The W270 is perfect for you if you’re a creative who needs a large monitor for primarily true-colour illustration and editing, with occasional gaming on the side. All in all, the PRISM+ W270 is a creative’s dream come true. It’s the definition of a value-for-money monitor that provides everything a professional would need.
