Fun Fact: Do you know that animation videos are much easier to rank on Google and you can improve video SEO easily compared to websites?
Now that you have a video, what do you do with it? Post it on your website and social media? That’s great, and things can get better. Why not let it be found on Google?
As videos appear prominently on Google Search and people are still focused on doing SEO for their website and hardly anyone thinks of doing SEO for their videos.
As an example, a search for “Why Animation” shows a video on the first page of Google easily.

1: Target Video Keywords
As a start, find out what are the best keywords that people like to search for, that is related to your business. You can ask your clients what words they would search for if they require your service and work from there. Then, use Google Adwords Keyword Planner as well to confirm the relevancy of your keywords and choose the ones with the most number of searches per month. (PS: You don’t have to pay for Adwords, just use the Keyword Planner tool, it’s free). GRAM Tip: In general, Google likes to give you video results for these types of keywords:- Reviews (“GRAM videos review”)
- How-to videos (“how to create an animation video”)
- Tutorials (“Animation Video Tutorials”)
- Funny videos (“Cute animation”)
2: Enhance the metadata of your animation video
Metadata is what Google looks at when ranking. Once you have the keywords, do this keywords magic trick:- Before uploading your video, change the name of the video to your keywords
- Add a powerful video description with your keywords in it.
- Tag your video with keywords that your target audience likes to search for (Eg. cute animal video)
3: Upload to your own website first
We recommend you upload your video on your own site first before proceeding to upload to YouTube or Vimeo to avoid giving away all the credit for your content! This boosts your SEO ranking as well as it shows you are creating original content.4: Add Subtitles
If you have the time, adding subtitles to your video can help to boost your video SEO ranking. Subtitles and closed captions open up your content to a larger audience, including deaf or hard of hearing viewers or those who speak languages besides the one spoken in your video On Youtube, Go to Creator Studio > Video Manager > Videos > Edit, and under Add Captions you will see 2 options. A. Transcribe and sync B. Upload a file If you have a subtitle file, that makes life easy, just upload the file and you are good to go. Alternatively, you can click on “Transcribe and sync”, and key in the subtitles yourself. This can be time-consuming so you may outsource it your nephew or something.5: Add Transcript under video description
Google ultimately uses words to rank your videos. By adding your entire video script under video description, it makes the video more searchable and easier for your target audience. In fact, why not add even more info about your company in the video description.
